The ownership and use of land is crucial to individuals, to commerce and to the economy of the country. The third edition of this manual covers the complex rules that have developed over the centuries from the Norman Conquest and that remain relevant to us all.

The new editions of The University of Law SQE1 manuals have been revised to bring the law and procedure up to date as at 1 April 2023 (titles with tax elements to 30 April 2023) and incorporate changes in the SQE1 assessment specification. These updated versions, together with our periodic updating service, will make sure your knowledge of the SRA’s SQE1 syllabus is ‘exam ready’.

Our practice assessment questions, embedded throughout the manuals, which are in the style of the Single Best Answer Questions which make up the SQE1 assessments, have also been reviewed and updated.

This book is part of a series of 15 University of Law study manuals that cover SQE1.

This 3rd edition is suitable for any student studying the SQE1/LLM Legal Practice (SQE1&2) / SQE Law Essentials starting before July 2024. Students joining our September 2024 intake should wait for our 4th edition which will be published in August 2024.

About Our Bundles

Land Law provides essential knowledge of the complex rules that have developed over the centuries from the Norman Conquest and that remain relevant to us all. The ownership and use of land is crucial to individuals, to commerce and to the economy of the country. Accordingly, there will always be plenty of work for the property lawyer.

About the author: Helen Avis is Campus Dean at The University of Law in Nottingham. Her current teaching combines her knowledge from her significant academic experience and her previous practice as a Senior Associate in a large national firm.

This book is part of a series of 15 study manuals that have been specially designed to cover the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) syllabus for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE1) in a concise and tightly focused manner.

Published and updated regularly, these user-friendly study manuals are designed to help you successfully prepare for the SQE1 exams.

They provide solid knowledge and understanding of fundamental legal principles and rules, while bringing the law and practice to life with example scenarios based on realistic client problems.

Each title is complemented by worked examples and sample assessment questions that enable you to test your knowledge and understanding through single best answer questions that have been modelled on the SRA’s sample assessment questions.

For students at The University of Law, the study manuals are used alongside other learning resources and the University’s assessment bank to prepare students not only for the SQE1 exams, but also for a future life in professional legal practice.

The legal principles and rules contained within this study manual are stated as at 1 April 2023 (titles with tax elements to 30 April 2023).
