SQE2 Preparation Course On Campus
This course prepares you for the Solicitor Regulation Authority’s (SRA) centralised SQE2 skills assessments, which test the practical legal skills of client interviewing, advocacy, legal writing, drafting and research, and case and matter analysis.
This course is designed for those who have already studied Functioning Legal Knowledge (FLK) by completing SQE1 training, such as on our SQE1 Preparation Course or as a result of studying the LPC.
You can choose to study full-time or part-time at one of our campuses.

This course will develop six practical legal skills ahead of sitting the SQE2 and ready for you for legal practice. The practical legal skills are:
- Interviewing
- Advocacy/Persuasive Oral Communication
- Case and matter analysis
- Practical Legal Research
- Legal Writing
- Legal Drafting
The course consists of six units per week full-time, or two units per week on the part-time course. The course also prepares you for Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) as a trainee solicitor by helping develop the practical legal skills required in the workplace. There are regular practice assessments throughout the course with expert feedback provided, to help you prepare for the real assessments.

The dates of our SQE Preparation Courses align with the SQE assessment dates.
If the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) changes an assessment date, we may need to change our course dates.

*Our satellite campuses (Chester, Exeter, Liverpool Newcastle, Norwich, Reading, Royal Holloway, Sheffield, and Southampton) will close 5 working days before (i.e. the Monday prior to the start dates noted above) to allow for ID and enrolment with the parent University*

The course fee does not include the SRA’s SQE2 assessment fee, which is paid directly to the SRA. Please check the SRA website for current fees for exams and resits.
You can pay with one upfront payment or with three monthly instalments (six monthly instalments on the part-time courses).

The course includes a wide range of practice tests and materials but there is no formal assessment and it does not lead to an academic award. The course will prepare you for the SQE2 assessments.
You will book, pay for and sit your SQE assessments externally, this includes requests for reasonable adjustments. See sra.org.uk for full details.
The SQE2 assessments involves approximately 14 hours of skills assessments over five half days. There are 16 written and oral tasks covering the six legal skills:
- Client interviewing including a linked attendance note/legal analysis
- Advocacy
- Case and matter analysis, including negotiation planning
- Legal research
- Legal writing
- Legal drafting
The assessments are set in the practice areas of:
- Criminal practice (including advising clients at the police station)
- Dispute resolution
- Property practice
- Wills and intestacy, probate administration and practice
- Business organisations, rules and procedures (including money laundering and financial services)
