Family law is a dynamic subject that is constantly changing and provides a challenge to everyone involved with it. Family Law and Practice offers a clear picture of the practical considerations that arise when advising in a divorce case. It sets out the divorce procedure, explains the financial implications of divorce and includes advice on ensuring that clients receive the money that they are owed. The book also outlines the principles governing the care and protection of children, the remedies available for victims of domestic abuse and the public funding regime in family cases.

This updated edition takes into consideration new case law and an expanded section on process options; the (then prospective) Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020; the online divorce process; and the initial implementation of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.

The new editions of The University of Law SQE Plus manuals have been revised to bring the law and procedure up to date as at 1 September 2021, including Brexit-related changes.

Nancy Duffield is a Senior Lecturer at The University of Law in London. Jacqueline Kempton practised as a family law solicitor and is now an Associate Professor at The University of Law in London. Christa Sabine practised as a family law solicitor and is now an Associate Professor at The University of Law in London.

This book is part of a series of study manuals that have been specially designed to cover content for students studying Key Practice Areas on the LLM Legal Practice (SQE1&2). Published and updated regularly, these user-friendly study manuals are designed to help you successfully acquire knowledge and understanding of the foundational law of England & Wales.
Each title is designed to operate as a study manual, rather than solely a textbook. This means that understanding of the subject is developed using worked examples and activities. This book can be used for the Family Key Practice Area as part of the Private Client Pathway of the SQE Plus.

For students only at The University of Law, the study manuals are used alongside other learning resources to prepare students not only for achievement of an academic qualification, but also for a future life in professional legal practice.
